Raccoon Quilt

You ever get that feeling…..
Like someone is watching you?

It’s been that kind of week for me. These sneaky looking raccoon blocks have eyes that seem to follow your every move. And I am especially fond of that one orange little raccoon!
The fabrics are all from Northcott Fabrics. The backing and the prints are from the Artisan Spirit Shimmer and Ambience collections and the solids are from their Color Works collection.

For the quilting, I used my signature wavy lines and chose Omni in light gray for the top and plain white Gutermann thread on the bottom.

The Raccoon pattern provides instructions for making seven different quilt sizes and two different block sizes. The full size raccoon blocks finish at 10″ wide by 8″ tall and the half size blocks finish at 5″ wide by 4″ tall. A 14″ wide by 12″ tall mini quilt can be made using one full size block or by using 4 half size blocks. Using the full size blocks, you can also make:
Crib Quilt using 14 full size blocks finishes at 38″ x 52″
Lap Quilt using 28 full size blocks finishes at 54″ x 62″
Throw Quilt using 33 full size blocks finishes at 62″ x 72″
Twin Quilt using 43 full size blocks finishes at 62″ x 92″
Full Quilt using 60 full size blocks finishes at 86″ x 92″

Raccoon is a 6 page pdf quilt pattern. Raccoon is a modern minimalist design made using traditional piecing methods. No templates. No paper piecing. Only simple straight line sewing and diagonal seams. Easy to follow instructions are provided for every step of the way!

Raccoon Crib quilt finishes at 38″ x 52″

Here is the Super Mini size made using the half size blocks.
I put corner pockets for hanging, on the back of this, before applying the binding.

The half size blocks were a wee bit challenging because of the tiny pieces.

But turned out so darn cute!

  1. Your racoon quilt is just so cute – especially love that there is just one 'different' racoon head in there. Your quilting is always amazing and just adds the perfect touch to the finished quilt. This pattern will be added to my 'favorites'!

  2. My goodness these little raccoons are adorable Lorna! Did you know there really are orange raccoons that occasionally come along? I remember when you were so excited to start using your 100 labels and now I am so amazed that you have used 90 of them! 90!!! That is so awesome!

  3. Just how do you sew your signature waving quilting? I would like to try it on a quilt top. Is it free-motion or with a walking foot? I tried quilting straight lines on a full-size quilt on my domestic machine and it was a nightmare…lots of ripping as they weren't straight so I thought intentionally making them wavy might work. Love your talent! Karen
