{One More} Modern Patchwork Doll Quilt

Posted on: September 10th, 2022 by Lorna McMahon

On Wednesday I shared my purple patchwork doll quilt and quickly found I wanted to make another.

Not only have I finished the five quilts that were the last of my unquilted pile… I also washed the pile of dirty dishes.

Now I had one more patchwork doll quilt in mind. This one features a pink Heart patch!

This time I sorted through my yellow scrap bucket and came up with a variety of 2.5″ squares and then found some pink 2″ border strips.

Cinnamon was reading one of her favourite books, when I walked in with this third little quilt, I have named, “You Are My Sunshine”.

Loving my new dolly quilts!!!

I did not use batting between the layers. And again, just used a yellow flannel with tiny stars for the backing, allowing for even less stiffness in the finished product and a nicer drape.

I sewed 1/4″ around the edges with right sides facing, but left a hole for turning, then topstitched all around. This makes a bindingless finish.

Echo quilted along the horizontal seams.

My little yellow and pink Heart patchwork doll quilt finished at 19″ x 21″

Sometimes you just got to get back to the basics and do some simple piecing for some simple pleasure.

Sometimes you need to do it more than once!

Sometimes you need to do it more than twice!!!

I sure enjoyed making one more little patchwork doll quilt!

I love these little quilts. Thank you for sharing your method. I made two little doll quilts for my granddaughters and used batting, so they don’t drape as well. I like yours so much!
