Let’s Bee Social #261

Posted on: February 18th, 2019 by Lorna McMahon
Welcome to the Let’s Bee Social!

Okay so I no longer have a handle on my week or my life. But this is the new me, and this is how I roll now. Here is your first ever Let’s Bee Social on a Monday.

There is one thing I would like to address right away today…..
Yes, there has also been a lot of SEWING!!!!!
On February 6th Molli Sparkles made this post on Instagram. He had this beautiful unfinished piece he had rediscovered and wondered what to do with it.

And I was like, “Girlfriend!!! Yaassss! Let’s do a quilty exchange!”
That was it. Molli and I had decided to each make something to send and exchanged addresses by email.
For those of you who have never had the pleasure, this is Molli Sparkles a.k.a. the uber talented Joshua Helms.
Molli and I have been quilting blogging buddies since a way long time. Although we have never met, I consider us to be friends.
Now what do you make as a return gift? Hmmmmm.
Molli Sparkles also has a flair for quilt pattern design. So why not make something using one of his own patterns?!!!!
It was decided and I asked if I could purchase a copy of his “Don’t Be A Dick” pattern. Turns out that when Craftsy shut down so many independent craft and quilting designers’ shops, Molli’s shop was one of them. So now you can visit his NEW PayHip Pattern Shop HERE!
I posted to Instagram and Facebook sharing my intentions and showing a rainbow fabric pull. But not everyone is impressed. Seems there are some who are easily offended by stick figure shapes if the body parts are genitalia.
So if you are against seeing drawings of, or fabric recreations of sexual organs please do not scroll down any further.
If you must unfollow,
then please quietly unfollow.
#DONTBEADICK
If you feel a need to make a negative remark about my decision to post about this fabric creation representing penises, DON’T BOTHER.
This is my blog.
Which I started to:
Post about my experiences,
Share what I am making,
Connect and make friends with quilters from all over the world.
Molli is my friend.
I made that decision.

And have since shared this additional sneak peek…..
I’m not naturally drawn to purple but it is growing on me.
So if you are still here…… Lol!
I also had to deal with another issue this weekend.
I don’t have access to the YouTube channel that was created “for me” but have since created a BRAND ACCOUNT APPROVED YouTube channel HERE.
Please click through to see MY first video production. It won’t teach you a thing, but it is me and it is my studio. And please SUBSCRIBE!!!
MORE TO COME!!!!

LOL! I like your foxy tail too!

  3. Love your fabric choice – can't wait to see the finished quilt 🙂

  4. Tish Stemple says:

I am right here and drooling…I think I need to see one in every color 🙂 Chop Chop. I feel like there could be a bad Lorena Bobbitt joke there somewhere, but we just won't go there 😛

  5. Jayne says:

You are a true and good friend! Not everyone will take kindly to this, but life goes on! I love that you and Molli are swapping and can't wait to see it all in the end!

  6. Nancy J says:

I was following Mollie for ages, then somehow the link vanished. This will be an interesting project to follow , and the fabrics are bright and beautiful.

  7. Susan C. says:

Lorna baby, you are busting out all over! This new life is fierce and so are you. I am witnessing a change and if you are happy then no one should try and rein you in. Your blog your rules….keep on being your happy generous self, then you will know who is real and let the others go.

  8. Kathy says:

Oh, you be you girl! Enjoy the ride!

  9. Can't wait to see it.

  10. Sewmotion says:

  11. I quilty exchange sounds like great fun! I'm looking forward to seeing your finished rainbow creation 🙂

  12. So funny to read this today. I met up with some girlfriends last weekend. One of them is a pelvic floor specialist. Last year I made her a subversive vagina quilt to hang in her exam room and give her patients something to look at. (http://www.dejongdreamhouse.com/2018/08/quilt-107-vv-improv). This weekend she was telling me that she also works with men so I have been challenged to make a penis quilt. I did come up with a subtle design. Stay tuned. In the meantime, I'm glad you are bringing some joy Molli's way. I was so sad to hear about his brother. I'm sure you will make his day. Finally, both of you should join Mildly Offensive Fiber Artists on FB. We need more quilters and you would fit right in.

  13. So heartwarming to read your post, and these positive, accepting comments below it. We definitely need more tolerance in today's world, more acceptance of our differences, and acknowledgement of our innate similarities and humanity. Thank you for having the courage to write about your past year that is not all rosy and happy-go-lucky-perfect-is-my-life quilt life. I know you have helped many along the way with your candour and honesty. Love the hair and the quilt exchange and do so love Jeff, who I've followed for hmm, I think four years now!
