High Heel Shoe quilt block tutorial

Posted on: November 2nd, 2017 by Lorna McMahon

Some shoe fanatic inspired me to design this quilt.

And today I am sharing the High Heel Shoe quilt block tutorial with you!

High Heel Shoe block finishes at 6” x 9”

Sew Fresh Quilts – High Heel Shoe block

Read through entire instructions before beginning.  Press seams open as you go.

STOP: Stitch, Trim, Open & Press. To perform the STOP method, align a square (A) or rectangle (C) on the corner of the unit (B) with right sides facing together. Draw a diagonal line and sew along this diagonal line. Trim a ¼” seam. Finger press the seam open and then press with a hot iron. Press all seams open to reduce bulk.

For each SHOE block:
Background
D
1 @ 1.5” square
F
1 @ 2” square
B
1 @ 1” x 4.5”
J
1 @ 3” x 4.5”
M
1 @ 4.5” x 8”
Dark
A
1 @ 1” x 1.5”
C
1 @ 1” x 9.5”
Medium
E
1 @ 1.5” x 4”
G
1 @ 2” x 9.5”
L
1 @ 4.5” x 5.5”
Light
K
1 @ 4.5” x 5”
For each ROW:
Background
N
2 @ 2” x 36.5”
Step 1:  Use the STOP method to add the Light (K) rectangle to the Background (M) rectangle, by aligning the bottom right corners. Then add the Medium (L) rectangle in the same manner. Use the STOP method to add the Background (D) square.

Step 2:  Sew the Medium (G) to the Dark (C). Use the STOP METHOD to add the Background (F) square. Sew this onto the bottom of the unit made previously.

Step 3:  Sew the Medium (E) to the Dark (A) and then add the Background (J) and (B) to the sides. Use the STOP method to add this onto the bottom of the unit made previously to complete the SHOE block. Make 4 SHOE blocks. Block measures 6.5” by 9.5” and will finish at 6” x 9”.
Step 4:  Sew the SHOE blocks together and add the Background (N) strips to the top and bottom to complete the ROW. Row measures 9.5” by 36.5” and will finish at 9” x 36”
