Let’s Bee Social # 189

Posted on: August 9th, 2017 by Lorna McMahon

Welcome to the Let’s Bee Social!
So glad to have you join us for the Let’s Bee Social weekly linky party!

At the end of June I mentioned that I was intending to make a purse for me. I had purchased the Companion Carpet Bag pdf from Sewing Patterns by Mrs.H on Etsy. I ordered fabric and doodads and stabilizer and handles. Each of those items arrived. And were stacked neatly away. Make more quilts. Put off making purse.

Yesterday I got down to business!

Here you can see all my pieces have been cut and stabilized. Only one piece got fused to my ironing board instead of the lining fabric. And I am ready to sew.

Look at this!!!

I am sewing!

I have never made a bag before and have never sewn a zipper in like this.

Ta-da!!!

Now on to the slip pocket on the other side of the lining.

Slick! My phone even fits!

Now here is where things really start going along. I managed to pin and sew the gusset into the lining. Without sticking myself with too many pins. Sewing curves for the drunkards path quilt blocks helped me to familiarize myself with this step.

And before I knew it, I had one piece with a pocket and metal label that says, “made for me”.

Hope to be showing off a finished bag soon!

Now… It’s your turn for Show and Tell!!!

What have you been working on?

One for yourself, goodee!!!( not sure if that is a proper word but it seemed to fit) and that fabric is superb, love the inset zipper, and I can see this will be a favourite when all finished.

Love the bag and the fabric!! Huge pat on the back for yourself because it turned out great! I've tried twice (unsuccessfully) to make a bag/purse for myself. So I am in awwe of your bag making skills 🙂

That is just so cute with the squirrels and birds! I have not ventured into bag making — I don't want to use all that pretty fabric and then not love the finished product!

Way to go in getting over the hump and starting your purse. It's looking mighty cool so far and I'm sure it will be fantastic when it is done! =)

  9. Lorna your purse is looking great. This is a wonderful pattern that you will love using. I love mine. I am testing a bag right now for ChrisW Designs. You might hooked into making bags now! I sure did, so much so that I test for a few designers now.

Good for you Lorna!! I admire anyone who makes bags…I do not like to do it myself but have mad respect for those who can do it! Can't wait to see how it turns out!

I haven't been able to sit at my sewing machine for almost a year now….severe back pain has prevented me from doing it. I just had some surgery last month to remove a tumor/lump that seems to have been the cause of the pain (pressing on some nerves????). I really hope that this works and I am back to sewing for Christmas gifts. I am behind on baby quilts, microwave bowls, and I have some memory lap quilts to make (we lost my FIL this Spring) for family members. I've kept busy by reorganizing my sewing/crafting area and I'm currently pressing my fabrics and placing them in a new cabinet so I will be ready to GO on a moments notice….(Hubby keeps telling me I will NEVER use all the fabric I have. LOL. My MIL gave me her supply last summer, so I am overflowing right now.) I'm making my list of patterns I want to order from you too. he, he, he.
