Birds of a Feather
Flock together!
This little quilted table runner was made for my mother for Mother’s Day. All the fabric used in the front are from the Hopscotch collection by Jamie Fingal for RJR Fabrics, which you can view here.
When I last visited my mother, I noticed that she had redecorated her balcony in a spring theme, replacing the Christmas items with flowers and birds. She has a line up of tiny birds all along the railing.
But her kitchen table is still decked out in this Christmas table runner I made for her.
If you were here for the Forest Friends 2 quilt pattern reveal, you’ve already seen the Cardinal. However, I adjusted this fella to have a fatter belly.
Then there is Mr. Robin…
A new version of the Blue Jay from the Forest Friends 2 quilt pattern, again with a fatter belly.
And this is the Red Winged Black Bird.
Of course, the quilting is my usual organic wavy lines using my walking foot, this one quilted close together to provide a dense, stiff finish. I used Omni in Light Grey thread both on top and in the bobbin. The backing is a scrap of Widescreen Crosshatch in Grey by Caroline Friedlander for Robert Kaufman Fabrics, left over from a previous project.
Wall Hanging size 21” x 34” and a Table Runner size 10″ x 34″
And also includes a Red Headed Woodpecker

Another great animal project! You're amazing! Happy Moms Day!
I have made several table runners for my MIL. She changes them seasonally. Your bird runner is a perfect gift for your Mom for Mother's Day. Happy Mothers Day to you and your Mom!
This is such a cute runner. I think I'm going to have to make it! And thanks for posting the info on your labels. I need some and couldn't remember where I had seen a good option. Question for you on your wavy quilting. I've admired it for a long time and I finally got up the nerve to try it. I like it and it wasn't as difficult as I feared it would be but the quilt IS very stiff. What do you consider to be a good distance to provide a soft finish on a quilt?
Mom is going to love this one! She's lucky to have such a talented and thoughful daughter in you Lorna!
What a thoughtful gift for Mothers Day. Your birds are so cute and will match her spring theme perfectly. Your Mom is going to love it.
That is super cute, Lorna!
I can quite understand why your mum still had it on her table . Nice enough for all Year round . And I love her replacement too
I just love these birds – in the tree AND on the wire! Well done, again!
