Sew Fresh Quilt Bee – April Link Up

Posted on: April 24th, 2017 by Lorna McMahon

I am thrilled to be able to share my second finished BEE block quilt with you!

Although I don’t usually don’t do improv, I enjoyed making the wonky slab blocks quilting along with all those who are participating in this worldwide goal of making 1000 quilts for the Ronald McDonald House Childrens’ Charity.

After finishing the smaller 12 block quilt, I got straight to work on putting together these final 24 blocks and getting this one quilted up the next day. I quilted my favourite organic wavy lines with my walking foot using plain white Guetterman thread on top and in the bobbin.

The backing and binding are Doe Eyed from the Moon Shine collection by Tula Pink for Free Spirit. And I added a strip of Northcott’s Artisan Spirit to the edge to make the backing wide enough. I love the bees on the backing and binding for this BEE block quilt!

Both of these quilts were mailed off last month to be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House Children’s Hospitals. It is my hope that all of the blocks and quilts we are making will bring a little joy and comfort to children in need.

  1. You may not do improv but you have nailed the wonkiness factor in your blocks Lorna. Thats a beautiful shade of blue.

  2. Beautiful!! The blues throughout really add to the whole quilt – love your backing and quilting!

Anyone know where I can order some of the Canada 150 fabrics from this line? I am in the states and having a hard time finding it. Would love to make a ,ink quilt for my Canadian mother.

  4. Love this one too! SO happy and bright! I HAVE to get at this and Sarah's H2H quilts this week!

  5. Shelly, Sew Sisters Quilt Shop has Canada fabric.

  6. I absolutely love your improv quilt, even if it's not something that comes naturally to you. (It doesn't come naturally to me either!). I also love the color scheme of aqua, red, and black but I think my favorite part is the tiny little maple leaves that are found in the red fabrics. It just adds such a nice touch and just makes me smile.
