Farm Girl Vintage blog tour

Posted on: May 8th, 2015 by Lorna McMahon

Hello all you Farm Girl fans!  Welcome to the 50 acre farm pit stop on the tour!

My name is Lorna McMahon, a modern quilter, designer and the author of Sew Fresh Quilts.

I am so excited to be a part of this blog hop.
Are you ready to Sew Along?!!!
Fat Quarter Shop kindly forwarded me a copy of Lori Holt’s newest book Farm Girl Vintage!

This book includes instructions for 45 sampler blocks in two sizes (6” and 12”),
10 quilts, 2 table runners, a table topper, and a potholder.

Farm Girl Vintage by Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet
is available to purchase from Fat Quarter Shop here.

Lori is hosting a new Sew Along on her Bee in my Bonnet blog.  Each Friday she will be posting a block from the Farm Girl Vintage book along with tips and inspiration for those particular blocks.

Grab a button and Sew Along!

This book is packed full of such beautiful farm fresh blocks.
It was hard to choose only one.

But that little Baby Chick block was irresistible!

And I couldn’t stop at just one.

These two little chicks are just too darn cute!

The quilting was performed using my walking foot, in closely spaced organic wavy lines, using Superior Threads’ Omni #3023 in Light Gray thread in both the top and the bobbin.  This thread blended perfectly with the background and was so subtle you can barely notice it.

For the binding I used my remaining Katie Stripe in Midnight by Beauty Queen.  It’s not black, but a very dark navy blue and blends in nicely with the grey background and the blue backing.  For the backing I used a matching Widescreen in Pacific, left over from making this Giggles Up quilt.

These little mats were the 37th and 38th use of my 100 labels ordered from
You can design your own labels, too!  Click here!
Don’t they look sweet as a set, paired up with the Pretty Piggy table runner?  You can find the instructions for the Pretty Piggy and Corn Cob blocks here.
What’s THIS?!!!
