Elephant Parade – Week 3 – Frog
Welcome to week 3 of the Elephant Parade! I will be showing a block each week and would like to encourage you to quilt along. You can try out as many or as few blocks as you like. Make a quilt or make a mini. Make a cushion. Make whatever your imagination leads you to make!

It is not necessary to purchase the pattern in order to participate. For one frog block, as pictured below, you will need:
Snow 9000-10 (off white)
1 @ 4.5″ x 7.5″ rectangle, 2 @ 1.5″ x 2.5″ rectangles, and 7 @ 1.5″ squares
PLUS a scrap large enough to trace 2 eyes at 1” square using fusible web
Kelly 9000-72 (dark green)
2 @ 2.5″ squares and 2 @ 1.5” x 2.5” rectangles
Lime 9000-71 (light green)
1 @ 3.5″ square and 6 @ 1.5″ squares
PLUS a scrap large enough to trace 2 eyes at 1.5” square using fusible web
Piece of fusible web large enough to trace 2 eyes at 1″ and 2 eyes 1.5” square
Press all seams open and press seams as you go.
Step 1: Take the 1.5″ x 2.5″ white rectangles and the 1.5″ light green squares. Draw a diagonal line across the 1.5″ light green squares. Place the light green squares on the ends of the white rectangles and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red. Trim a 1/4″ seam. Press the seams open.
Step 2: Take the 2.5″ dark green squares and the 1.5″ light green and white squares. Draw a diagonal line across the 1.5″ light green squares. Place the light green squares on the dark green squares and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red. Trim a 1/4″ seam. Press the seams open. Draw a diagonal line across the 1.5″ white squares. Place the white squares on the dark green squares and sew along the diagonal lines, as shown in red. Trim a 1/4″ seam. Press the seams open.
Step 3: Take the 1.5” x 2.5″ dark green rectangles and the 1.5″ white squares. Draw a diagonal line across the 1.5″ white squares. Place the white squares on the dark green rectangles and sew along the diagonal line, as shown in red. Trim a 1/4″ seam. Press the seam open. Place the white squares on the other end of the dark green rectangles and sew along the diagonal line, as shown in red. Trim a 1/4″ seam. Press the seam open.
Step 4: Take the units made in Step 1 to Step 3. Arrange them in order, as shown. Sew them together. Press the seams open.
Step 5: Take the 3.5″ light green square and the 1.5” light green and white squares. Arrange the 1.5” squares in order, as shown. Sew them together. Press the seams open. Sew the 3.5” light green square to the top. Press the seam open.
Step 6: Take the 4.5″ x 7.5” white rectangle and the units made in Step 4 and Step 5. Arrange them in order, as shown. Sew the units from Step 4 and Step 5 together. Press the seams open. Sew the white rectangle on top. Press the seam open.
Step 7: Trace (2) 1.5” circles and (2) 1” circles onto the paper side of your fusible web. According to fusible web instructions, apply the 1.5” circles to the wrong side of the green scrap of fabric and the 1” circles to the wrong side of the off white fabric. Cut the circles out. Fuse the green circles in place. Then fuse the white ones on top. Using matching thread and a tight zig zag stitch, secure the edges of the circles. Sew a button or embroider the black center of the eyes on the completed block. I do not recommend using buttons on items intended for use by young children or babies. Embroider a red mouth on the completed block. I used iron on stabilizer to back the portion of the block where the mouth was embroidered.
Completed block will measure 8.5″ tall by 7.5″ wide including seam allowances
